Temps Perdu (Lost Time) responds to the work of Hessie (also known as Carmen Lydia Duric) (1936-2017), a French-Caribbean textile artist who created delicate embroideries featuring abstract forms, often using simple, everyday materials. It draws its name from a 1972 artwork by Hessie – a sheet of paper with perforations spelling out the words Temps Perdu.
The exhibition takes place in two parts: Part l comprised a solo exhibition of Hessie's work, and Part ll is a tribute to Hessie by Jessye and artist Olga Theuriet. Jessye has developed a new series of embroideries which are exhibited together with Hessie's perforated paper work and a large-scale textile piece by Olga. The exhibition is curated by Arnaud Lefebvre.
